Clashes erupted between police and Los Yungas coca growers protesting the Bolivian government’s draft plantation bill, in La Paz. Officers fired tear gas at protesters who in turn threw hand grenades at the police, near the National Congress of Bolivia in the Plaza Murillo.
Earlier, the Bolivian government drafted a bill proposing to legalize growing coca on 20,000 hectares of land, thus introducing unwelcome competition for the Los Yungas coca growers.
