The US Navy stealth destroyer Zumwalt was left stranded at the former US Naval Station Rodman after the ship reportedly suffered an “engineering casualty” on while sailing through the Panama Canal en route to the San Diego Naval Station. Crew members on board the $4.4 billion destroyer reportedly noticed water entering the vessel and its starboard electrical motors, causing a malfunction and forcing the ship to be tugged to a nearby dock for repair. It suffered a similar breakdown in September while sailing from its builder’s yard in Bath, Maine to Baltimore for its commissioning ceremony.
