People have been busy putting up wooden boards on stores, hotels and homes to reduce the damage.
About 1.5 million people are waiting to be evacuated. Most government offices, companies, schools, and airports will be closed temporarily. Stores and gas stations are facing a shortage of supplies. The state has placed over 3,500 National Guard troops on standby for rescue work.
